Burglar targets SBI ATM at Mananchira

Masked person makes attempt to loot the kiosk; police registers case.

KOZHIKODE: An unsuccessful attempt to loot the  ATM of  the main branch of State Bank of India at  Mananchira was made around 2 a.m. on Thursday.  No money was lost as the  burglar failed to break open the  ATM and the cash deposit machine (CDM).    The lone person  wore a mask and after entering the counter, he covered the CCTV camera and the rest of the visuals were not visible. The theft attempt was noticed by the officials around 7.30 a.m.

The accused could break only the outer cover and the chest was safe,  said the police. The incident took place in the heart of the city near the office of the city police commissioner.  There is only one security man  in the bank complex  during night. The thief  entered  the ATM  while the security man went outside the  building. Fingerprint experts and scientific assistants  collected evidence from the spot.

Based on the complaint of SBI assistant  general manager,  the town police registered a case  under IPC 457 (lurking house-trespass or house-breaking by night in order to commit offence punishable with imprisonment) together with sections 511 (attempting to commit offences punishable with imprisonment for life or other imprisonment) and 380 (theft in dwelling house, etc.).
