CPM asks Mayor Soumini Jain to resign
CPM district secretary added that the chief minister had been apprised of the concerns over the new waste to energy plant at Brahmapuram.
KOCHI: The CPM district committee organised a protest march to the Corporation office on Thursday demanding the resignation of the Mayor as she failed to take steps to clear water-logging in the city. While inaugurating the protest, CPM district secretary P. Rajeev said that Mayor Soumini Jain had no right to continue in the post as she failed to take any steps to resolve flooding despite the instructions of chief minister Pinarayi Vijayan.
“Though the city got inundated in the first spell of the monsoon, the Mayor is paying no attention. No steps were taken to clear heaps of garbage piled up in the city which pose serious health risks. The city residents have to bear the internal feud within the ruling front,” he alleged. “The civic administration failed to retain the city’s position in the national sanitation ranking”, he added. Also, the CPM district secretary added that the chief minister had been apprised of the concerns over the new waste to energy plant at Brahmapuram.
CPM leaders demanded that the surface water drainage system proposed by the expert agency Esteem Developers which would help to find a permanent solution to the perennial issue of flooding should be implemented. Opposition leader K.J Antony, CPI Ernakulam area secretary P.N Seenulal, V.P Chandran, Poornima Narayanan, Adv. M Anil Kumar also spoke.
