IUML protests against police atrocities
Party MLAs C. Mammootty, Abdul Hameed and P. Ubaidullah led the protest march.
MALAPPURAM: Muslim League MLAs and party representatives of various civic bodies in Malappuram marched to the office of the district police chief on Monday alleging police atrocities against the party workers in coastal areas of Tirur and Tanur. While addressing the march, party leaders, including state general secretary K.P.A. Majeed and district secretary K.N.A. Khader, alleged that CPM workers went on a rampage against party workers and enjoyed the support of police.
“We will counter the attack if atrocities are not stopped and fake cases registered against the League workers are not dropped. We will hit back at the right time,” said Mr. Khader. Party MLAs C. Mammootty, Abdul Hameed and P. Ubaidullah led the protest march.
Former MLAs Abdurahman Randathani and Kutty Ahammed Kutty also addressed the gathering. The repeated clashes between CPM and Muslim League workers, which began during the Assembly election campaign, have not yet receded despite efforts by the police and district authorities to broker peace.
