KOZHIKODE: A head accountant at the Social Justice office in Kozhikode is pursuing her legal battle, after the department gave her a transfer just three months after her last appointment. Beena T., from Panniyankara, alleges that the transfer was politically motivated and her transfer was ordered while a stay order from the Administrative Tribunal was in existence till September 3.

However, Social Justice director B.S. Thirumeni told DC that the department had decided to retain Ms Beena for one more month and that she did not have to take up the role in Perambra ICDS, as per the earlier order. But Ms Beena said that she received the relieving order from the Social Justice officer, Kozhikode, on Monday.

Ms Beena’s case is one among the hundreds of ‘unnecessary’ transfers made in the district, after the new government took charge, said one of the office bearers of the NGO Association in Kozhikode. “They have taken up the issue in Revenue, Education and other departments with the concerned ministers”, he said.

The head accountant was appointed at Kozhikode office on March 16 and was served a transfer order dated June 24. Ms Beena alleges that the man, who was to replace her, had not even applied for the transfer. After her complaint, a hearing was called at the Directorate in Thiruvananthapuram on July 22, but she could not attend it and was not given a second chance, she said.
