Bengaluru: With the prestigious National Public School (NPS) network caught in a bind after CBSE cancelled its affiliation, the state government is rushing in to ‘protect the interests of thousands of NPS students’ whose future is in jeopardy.

If the Congress government’s plan takes off, beleaguered NPS chairman, Dr K.P. Gopalkrishna could be let off the hook despite breaking Right to Education (RTE) norms.

Sources said an offer has been made to Dr Gopalkrishna to agree to come under the RTE by giving seats to under-privileged students and in return, the government would do its bit to save the institution.

Chief Minister Siddaramaiah during a meeting of the primary and secondary education department on  Wednesday, reportedly instructed officials to find a solution to resolve the impasse.

The change in strategy has in part, also been forced by politicians, with two Congressmen and a BJP leader running franchise schools in association with NPS. They have reportedly brought pressure on the CM to close the case.

Critics have just one thing to say — what happened to the Ahinda cause of protecting interests of the Dalits and poor which the Chief Minister — and party president Sonia Gandhi, whose brainchild RTE is — have been harping on?
