Thrissur: The drinking water to parts of Thrissur corporation and adjoining panchayats were disrupted on Friday after the 700-mm pipe supplying water to the  36-mld project tank at Chembukkavu here breached near Peechi dam on Thursday evening.   However, the old municipal areas in the heart of the town were not affected as the supply from Peechi to these areas is through a 600- mm pipe to the 14.5 mld project tank at Thekkinkkad maidan.

The water supply to Adat, Arimbur, Manalur, Killanur, Thrissur Medical College at Mulamkunnathukkavu, Koorkenchery, Nadathara, Villadam and Ayyanthole areas were stopped due to the pipe breach. “The works were going on to replace a portion of 360 metres of the 700-mm line which carries the dam water to a treatment plant. The old primo pipes were being replaced with ductile pipe when a portion of the pipe broke at 5 p.m. on Thursday.   The repairing works will be completed on Friday night and we will  resume supply by Saturday morning,” Kerala Water authority Assistant Executive Engineer Benny said.    It would take nearly five hours for the 700- mm pipe from Peechi to be filled up again to resume supply, KWA officials said.
