Reception spree awaits Alphons Kannanthanam

BJP, Xtian clergy plan series of events.

Kochi: Mr Alphons Kannanthanam  will have a hectic schedule during  his first visit to the state  in his capacity as  Union Minister of State for Tourism and IT with the BJP state unit and a section of Christian clergy planning a series of programmes.     BJP state unit president Kummanam Rajasekharan will lead the partymen  to provide a rousing reception to the minister on his arrival  at the Kochi airport at 9.30 a.m. on Sunday.  Mr Kannanthanam will be accorded receptions by the Ernakulam and Kottayam district units of the BJP on  the same day.

A road show will also be held at Kanjirappally Assembly constituency covering  nine panchayats. Mr  P.S. Sreedharan Pillai,  former BJP state unit president, will  inaugurate the meeting.   The minister will also be accorded a reception by the Kannur district committee of BJP during a private visit to the district on Monday.   Mr Kannanthanam, who will  return to Kottyam on Tuesday,  will inaugurate the Sreekrishna Jayanti at Thirunakkara temple ground.  

A civic reception at Kanjirappally will be attended by a slew of political leaders, including CPI state secretary Kanam Rajendran, Electricity Minister M.M. Mani, Kerala Congress leader P.J. Joseph and several others. Bishop Mathew Arackkal will preside over the function to be inaugurated by Mr Kummanam.  On the same day, Mr  Kannanthanam will  have a meeting with bishops of Nilakkal Ecumenical Council.     The Thiruvananthapuram district unit of the BJP will accord him a reception on September 16 before his departure to Delhi.
