Woman constable from Chennai nabs suspect fleeing from Government Stanley Hospital
She swiftly followed the trail of the suspect for about 500 m before pinning him down.
Chennai: In a hot-chase by foot, a woman head constable nabbed a 25-year-old male suspect fleeing from the Government Stanley Hospital when brought for medical examination, on Friday evening.
The suspect identified as Surya (25), resident of Pallavan Nagar, Kasimedu, who was arrested in a criminal case by fishing harbour police, was brought to the hospital at around 6 pm. Sources said two policemen, a head constable and a sub-inspector, both attached to the fishing harbour police station, escorted the suspect.
Soon after the jeep was pulled for parking inside the hospital premises, the suspect jumped custody by overpowering the cop-duo in a jiffy. The escort cops raised an alarm causing a flutter among the public and the woman head constable, Sivakami, who was posted in the police outpost in the hospital got the hang of the incident.
She swiftly followed the trail of the suspect for about 500 m before pinning him down. The cops escorting him too reached the spot, and took his custody back.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the suspect was not handcuffed since he was brought for the medical examination, which reportedly gave him the leeway to escape. He was picked up on Friday morning in a hurt case by Fishing Harbour police. A Court here subsequently remanded him to Judicial Custody in the City.
The suspect had to undergo a medical examination before he was lodge in Puzhal prison as per the procedure, and that was when he tried to give a slip in vain. Appreciations came from all quarters for Sivakami’s swift action, which helped nab the fleeing suspect.
