Malappuram Police to probe fake voice clip

MALAPPURAM: Following a report submitted by the Crime Branch, the Malappuram district police had decided to launch a probe into a fake voice clip that has been circulated as WhatsApp message in the name of B. Sandya, the additional director general of police, south zone. The Police on Tuesday registered under IPC Section 153 A (Promoting enmity between different groups on grounds of religion) and probing to find out the source of the 2.49 minute voice clip.
The message contains a cautionary message to the people of Malappuram regarding an imminent deployment of military to take charge of the law and order in the district in the wake of recent blast at the district collectorate compound. ADGP Sandhya, who is supervising the investigation into the blast, had visited the spot on Friday to review the progress. But she had made no public statement regarding the probe or the blast.
Sources said that the objectionable voice clip seeks to spread the message to maximum number of people and categorically puts blame on a particular community for the incident. A preliminary probe by the district police chief Debesh Kumar Behera, with the help of Cyber Cell, has asserted that the voice clip was fake. A team led by C.K. Babu, the Crime Branch DySP, has been constituted for investigating the case.
