Ex-serviceman arrested for threatening two cops with pistol
HYDERABAD: Panjagutta police arrested an ex-serviceman Venkata Nagendra Reddy for threatening and attempting to fire at the night patrolling staff with his licensed weapon in the wee hours of Wednesday. The six-round pistol and live ammunition were seized from him.
City police commissioner C.V. Anand appreciated constable Sai Kumar and home guard Ravindra Babu for fearlessly confronting the armed-accused
and apprehended him.
Around 3.30am on Wednesday, when they were patrolling in Ameerpet, they noticed some commotion in one of the lanes. When they went closer, the police personnel noticed a heated argument between a man (Nagendra Reddy) and transgenders.
When the cops tried to disperse them, Reddy abused them, pulled out his pistol and aimed it at them point blank and tried to fire. The cops managed to tackle him.
“Despite being unarmed, the courageous cops acted on the spur of the moment with no regard for their own safety and apprehended the offender. Their bravery is commendable,” said Anand, as he rewarded them with a cash reward and appreciation certificates.
Meanwhile, Panjagutta police registered a case against Reddy under charges of attempt to murder and Arms Act and arrested him. Reddy served as a havaldar before retiring in 2017.
