Kozhikode's Butt Road Beach for talent display
These performers will be given the stage on Saturdays and Sundays when many visit.
Kozhikode: Butt Road Beach which is emerging as the second most preferred space after the main beach is all set to give free space for talents to perform in front of a huge audience visiting the spot during weekends. The District Tourism Promotion Council with the support of MLA A Pradeep Kumar will renovate the space, which in a bad way despite spending lakhs for its renovation during the previous year.
Once the renovation work is completed, the beach’s open stage will be thrown open to talents to perform free of cost while the light and sound facility will be provided by the DTPC. These performers will be given the stage on Saturdays and Sundays when many visit. This will cause a reduction in the rush to the main beach during weekends, according to members of the Butt road morning walker’s association, who have extended their support.
“It was after several years that this neglected beach was spruced up two years ago, but once again the beach is virtually in a dilapidated condition due to lack of maintenance. Hence along with DTPC we will make sure that a proper facelift is given, maintenance done regularly and we will even appoint security round- the –clock to guard the spot and prevent vandalism by anti-social elements”, said A Pradeep Kumar MLA.
He added that after consulting engineers, the plan was to close the pool that was constructed in the middle of the park, because, rather than adding to its beauty, it was creating trouble. “This space will be utilized for seating for the audience to watch performances. In short our plan is to bring this untapped beach destination on par with other potential tourism centres in the city,” he added.
As an initial step, DTPC in association with the Kerala Sangeetha Nataka Akademi will organize a ‘Ghazal nite’ here between January 29 and February 2. Noted Ghazal experts from around the State will be performing here.
