Kottayam: Chandanakudam festival reminisces the friendship between Lord Ayyappa and King Vavar. The festival practised over the centuries at Erumely ahead of the Petta Thullal (ceremonial dance) will be held on Wednesday.

Three caparisoned elephants used to carry the Chandanakudam (a pot containing sandalwood-smeared water) in a procession to various places accepting receptions.

Hundreds of people will accompany the procession, beginning at 6.30 pm from the Erumely Juma Masjid and concluding at 3 am next day. Industries minister A.C. Moideen will inaugurate it.

Erumely Juma Masjid secretary P.U. Abdul Kareem told DC that the Chandanakudam symbolises communal harmony and people from various walks of life will participate in the festival.
