Hyderabad: Cops launch special drive to prevent chain-snatching, drunk driving

Hyderabad: The Rachakonda police said they had started a special drive to prevent chain-snatching, vehicles using improper number plates and drunk and dangerous driving.

“We have intensified patrolling and conducted awareness programmes in the rural areas,” Rachakonda police commissioner D.S. Chauhan said. “Our special teams are working round the clock to nab the chain snatchers.”

DCP, traffic, D. Srinivas said three traffic diversions have been made on the congested roads of LB Nagar,  Malkajgiri and Bhongir divisions to ease the flow of vehicles. He said the traffic police had booked 2,925 cases so far this year.

He said the footpath encroachers had been served 28 traffic notices. The traffic police had booked 264 cases of towing, helmetless driving (27,467), e-petty (509), driving while talking on mobile phones (87), triple-riding (441), and 644 cases of drunk driving.

He said the police had produced 992 persons who were previously caught in drunk driving cases before the courts. The courts had sentenced 26 respondents to imprisonment and another 20 to community service from January 1 till January 5.
