Belagavi: Boy dies in school fight, parents blame principal
Hundreds of people stage dharna seeking inquiry into death.
Belagavi: A 14-year-old schoolboy from Belagavi died on the school premises following an alleged fight with other students. The deceased has been identified as Prashant Hulmani, an 8th standard student of B.K. Model High School.
The incident happened after school hours and the boy’s parents alleged that he died due to the negligence of school authorities, as they did not promptly intervene. According to sources, Prashant was allegedly beaten up by about eight boys from the same school after school hours, following which he fell on the ground. He was later rushed to a hospital by a group of people, but he was declared brought dead.
His parents alleged that a group of boys had informed the principal about the quarrel, but he did not take serious note of the complaint. Hundreds of people, along with Prashant’s parents, staged a dharna in front of the school demanding an inquiry into the incident in which he was killed. A mob also broke the school windows. However, the police intervened and brought the situation under control.
Members of Karnataka Kannada Abhimanagala Sangh, who also joined the dharna, alleged that the CCTV camera installed at the school premises was found missing on Thursday. They urged authorities concerned to recover the missing camera to check the footage to ascertain the reason behind Prashant's death.
On registering a case, officials of Camp Police station launched an investigation into the case, but refused to divulge any information regarding injuries sustained by Prashant.
