Thiruvananthapuram: Even as the controversy related to the Kerala Law Academy Law College was taking centre stage, the Kerala University has written to the cooperative registrar seeking the disbanding the now defunct Kerala University Central Cooperative Society headed by Law Academy director N. Narayanan Nair for a long period. The university has also asked the cooperative department to hand back the land to the university. Mr Nair was the president of this society which as per bylaw should have at least three syndicate members for a long period.

The society which had been entrusted with the printing and distribution of textbooks of the university was defunct for almost ten years. The building of the society functioning on the university campus was identified as the ideal location for constructing the amenity centre of the university. Moreover, the land was provided by the university. However, as it was a cooperative society, the university could not unilaterally take over the land. Hence, it had to start the construction of the amenity centre in the space in front of the building of the society as the approval of the cooperative registrar was needed if the university wanted to take back the building.
