Once completed, the 5.5 kilometre tunnel road would link Swargamkunnu near Anakkampoyil and Kalladi near Meppadi, Wayanad.
Wayanad: The state government has ensured the expertise of Konkan Railway to construct the tunnel road linking Anakkampoyil in Kozhikode with Meppadi in Wayanad. The Konkan Railway Corporation has handed over a ‘Letter of intent’ to the state government expressing interest in taking over the project. Once completed, the 5.5 kilometre tunnel road would link Swargamkunnu near Anakkampoyil and Kalladi near Meppadi, Wayanad. Tiruvambadi MLA George M Thomas told DC that as the Konkan railway has evinced interest, now the state can prepare a Detailed Project Report (DPR).
It was E Sreedharan who suggested the name of Konkan Railway. So I hope he would chip in his expertise in all phases starting with the preparation of the DPR”, he added. Konkan Railway is more experienced in construction and the maintenance of tunnels”, Mr Thomas said. Both the spots are at the same height from sea level and the road also would be a level one. No forest stretches are necessary for the project as the road starts from a private land and ends in a private land. The cost per kilometre for the tunnel road is between '65 crore to '100 crore, according to experts.
