PATHANAMTHITTA: A three-day old baby went missing in a suspected case of child abduction at the Kozhencherry district hospital in Pathanamthitta on Thursday morning. The baby belonged to Anitha and Saji, a couple hailing from Chethonkara, Marathumpadi in Ranni. The incident took place at around 11 am when Anitha was admitted to the operation theatre there for birth control surgery.
The baby was with Anitha’s parents at that time. A woman, apparently aged around 30 years, demanded the baby from the grandparents under the pretext of feeding it. The woman along with the baby went missing after that.

The woman had earlier established good rapport with the couple by convincing them that she was a well-wisher of Saji, who was a pastor. The police, with the support of hospital authorities verified the surveillance camera visuals to spot the lady fleeing with the baby. “The police team launched an intensive search for the missing baby. Our initial plan is to trace out the child and then investigate into the various angles including the support the abductor got to kidnap the child. We earlier got information that such a baby and a woman was spotted in areas of Pathanamthitta,” B. Anil, Kozhencherry circle inspector told this newspaper.
