Six Maharaja's College students suspended for chair burning
The committee in its report named the six students for their involvement in the incident.
KOCHI: Maharaja’s College has suspended six students including the college union chairman Achin P Dinesh in connection with the burning of the chair of the college principal on January 18 pending further investigation. Other suspended students included Harikrishnan, Mohammad Anwar, Vishnu Suresh, Prajit K Babu and Afridi. The action follows the finding of the committee constituted by the governing council to probe the incident. The committee in its report named the six students for their involvement in the incident.
The suspended students belong to the Students Federation of India (SFI). The chair-burning incident was the culmination of a series of protest actions by students against the college principal with the students alleging that he had been indulging in ‘moral policing’ in the campus. The incident has been condemned by a wide section of people and even the SFI had officially disassociated itself from the incident. Even Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan had criticized the incident in an indirect manner while inaugurating the meeting of the old students association recently.
