BENGALURU: An inebriated man who was too drunk to operate an ATM, was mistaken for a robber and ended up in hospital with a head injury, after he was found kicking an SBI ATM machine in Ulsoor in the wee hours of Monday.

The 46-year-old security guard of a multinational company, Rajiv Debnath, was heavily drunk, and had gone to withdraw money from his account at around 2:30 am on Monday at the ATM right opposite his office. After inserting his card, he found the machine was taking time to dispense cash. A restless Debnath began kicking and shaking the ATM kiosk to get the money quickly, police said.

Hearing the noise, the ATM security guard thought it was a robbery attempt and went inside to confront Debnath. Fearing that he would get  caught, Debnath ran out of the ATM keeping on looking behind to see if anyone was pursuing him and ended up hitting  an electric pole.

The cops were informed and they rushed Debnath to Hosmat hospital with  head injuries. His condition is stable, police officials added. A case was registered in Ulsoor police station.
