AP woman falls down 3rd floor lift shaft, dies
The Rajendranagar police has registered a case for investigation.
Hyderabad: A 67-year-old woman from Proddutur, Andhra Pradesh, died after falling into an elevator shaft from the third floor on Wednesday night. Unaware that the lift had ascended upstairs, the victim forced the door open and stepped inside, resulting in the fall. The Rajendranagar police has registered a case for investigation.
The victim has been identified as Kamalamma, 67, a native of Proddutur, Kadapa district, Andhra Pradesh. She had arrived in the city on Tuesday to attend her niece’s wedding at the KK Convention Hall in Bandlaguda.
Although the final event had concluded in the morning on Wednesday, the victim and her relatives were scheduled to board their bus to Proddutur at 7.30 pm. However, just as soon as they boarded the bus, the victim realised that she had forgotten her spectacles in a room on the third floor. Subsequently, she took the elevator to the third floor and got her spectacles. The elevator had ascended to the fourth floor by the time she returned to it. Unaware of this fact, she forced the elevator’s protective door open and walked into the hollow elevator shaft. “Kamalamma assumed that the elevator was still on the third floor when she returned to it. As a result, she attempted to pull the door of the elevator, which caused its lock to break. As she stepped forward, she fell to the ground floor and died on the spot,” said the Rajendranagar inspector G. Suresh.
He further reported that her relatives broke into a frenzy about her disappearance, and only after 10 to 15 minutes of frantic searching did they learn that she had fallen into the shaft. She was found dead with severe bleeding injuries.
Based on a complaint filed by one of her relatives, Prabhakar Reddy, a case has been registered against the management of the convention hall for the probe.
