Kochi Metro to be launched at Kaloor

Kochi: The inaugural function of the Kochi Metro, to be attended by Prime Minister Narendra Modi among others, will be held at the Kaloor Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium on June 17. Though Aluva was initially identified by the Metro authorities to hold the function, the venue was shifted on the direction of the Special Protection Group (SPG) commandos who were not satisfied with the site.

“A team headed by Aneesh Sirohi, Assistant Inspector General, SPG, inspected the possible venues for the inaugural event and finalised JLN Stadium. The SPG team also had a discussion with KMRL MD Elias George along with city police commissioner M.P. Dinesh and DCP Yatish Chandra,” a statement said. The Kochi Metro will conduct commercial operations in the 13-km Aluva-Palarivattom stretch initially.
