Governor seeks report from DGP, CS on stripping incident
HYDERABAD: Taking a serious note of the incident in which a 28-year-old orphan woman was stripped naked in Balajinagar road on August 6, the Telangana State Commission for Women (TSCW) took suo moto cognizance of the incident, while Governor Dr. Tamilisai Soundararajan has sought a report from the chief secretary and the DGP on the action taken against the culprits and asked them to submit a detailed report immediately.
“With profound distress over the unfortunate incident of forcefully disrobing a young woman on a street within the Jawahar Nagar PS limits in the outskirts of Hyderabad, the Governor has instructed the chief secretary and the DGP to take action against the culprits and submit a detailed report immediately,” read a communiqué issued by the Raj Bhavan here on Wednesday.
Meanwhile, TSCW chairperson Valkiti Sunitha Lakshmareddy said “Our team, comprising Kommu Umadevi and investigation officer (IO) Sharada, met the victim, enquired about the incident and shifted her to Sakhi, where she is undergoing treatment. We will see that the accused Pedda Maraiah is severely punished for committing the heinous crime.”
The commission asked all the concerned departments, including Rachakonda police, to take appropriate action against Maraiah.
Lakshmareddy comforted the victim on phone and urged Sakhi representatives to ensure that the victim gets quality medical services. Expressing concern at the deplorable manner people stood as mute spectators, she said that had the locals responded immediately, they could have saved the young woman from the humiliation.
TSCW representatives called upon the police to take legal action against the person who had shot the video, police said.
