Chaos in Kozhikode corporation over spillover projects
A council meeting to discuss the street light issue will be held on September 9.
KOZHIKODE: Kozhikode Municipal Corporation has decided to start shift system at FRIENDS Janasevana Kendram from September 28. The Corporation will also conduct talks with Uralungal Labour Co-Operative Society (ULCCS) for the smooth functioning of street lamps. A council meeting to discuss the street light issue will be held on September 9. Addressing the council, Mayor Thottathil Raveendran said that the shift system at FRIENDS will help to give service for the people without any break during lunch time.
He also added that once the ULCCS take over the street light maintenance, the complaints regarding its functioning could find a permanent solution. During the council meeting, opposition and ruling front locked horns for a brief time over the spillover projects. UDF councilor P Kishan Chand alleged that the Corporation failed to use the money allocated for various projects last year and only spend the spillover money from 2014-15. The Mayor who said that the allegation is not true, asked Corporation Secretary T.P Satheesan to give explanation. However to the shock of ruling front, the secretary said that the allegation is correct and only spillover funds were used.
Education Standing Committee Chairman M Radhakrishnan Master who got angered by the comment said that the Secretary is misleading the council and pointed put the works done spending fund from plan fund last year. The Mayor who was visibly upset over secretary’s reply even asked the Secretary if he could notexplain the facts correctly, how he can sit in the post. Thottathil Raveendran directed the Secretary to table a detailed report about the expenditure made by next council.
