EC to make home visits for voter info
17 lakh Form 6s, used for enrolment of voters and 11.8 lakh Form 8s for correction of entries received
HYDERABAD: The State Election Commission directed GHMC officials to go door to door to correct details in voter lists.
Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) Vikas Raj said that the house-to-house survey in which verification of houses with more than six electors with an objective to correct the addresses and other details like name, age, and photographs was one of the important pillars of the campaign.
Raj said his office had received almost 17 lakh Form 6s, used for enrolment of voters, since January 5, including 7.15 lakh from four districts in the GHMC. It had also received 11.8 lakh Form 8s for correction of entries of which 3.77 lakh applications were from the four districts.
The EC had never received such a high number of applications for correction of details in the past, he said. He put the high number to the intensive focused efforts put in by the election machinery.
To ensure healthy error-free rolls, 40 special teams of one tahsildar and two naib tahsildars were constituted to verify deletions taken up in all 119 Assembly constituencies.
The electoral machinery, under the direction and control of ECI, is committed to making all efforts required to prepare a healthy error-free electoral roll and all necessary measures are being taken up for the same.
Special care is also being taken and outreach activities are underway to ensure that young voters in the age bracket of 18-19 years, women voters, senior citizens, PwDs, sex workers and those belonging to the third gender are enrolled as voters.
