Lok Adalat clears 5.5 lakh cases in Hyderabad

HYDERABAD: The Telangana State Legal Services Authority (TSLSA) helped dispose of 5,58,887 pending and pre-litigation cases during the National Lok Adalat held on Saturday.

S. Goverdhan Reddy, TSLSA member-secretary, stated that  5,45,704 cases of those resolved on Saturday were pending and included those of a criminal nature. Another 13,179,182 pre-litigation cases were disposed of, he said.

The Lok Adalat was held in all the courts from the High Court to the taluka courts.

In the Telangana  High Court, former judges Justice  G.V. Seethapathy and Justice Challa Kodandaram presided over the Lok Adalat Benches and settled 404 cases, which included civil revision petitions, writ petitions of services and others.

High Court Legal Services Committee  Secretary M. Santhi Vardhan said that around ₹15 crores were ordered for compensation, benefiting around 1,100 persons in various cases, including accident claim cases.

Justice P. Sam Koshy of the High Court, who is TSLSA Executive Chairman, inaugurated the National Lok Adalat at the City Civil Court here. He distributed cheques to the beneficiaries of insurance claims.

Justice Sam Koshy highlighted the benefits of settling cases before the Lok Adalat and advised the parties to come forward and settle their cases amicably.
