Family clueless on youth's Islamic State links

Kochi: The family of suspected IS operative Subhani Haji Moideen (31) was reportedly in dark about his extremist connection with the terror outfit till he was taken into custody by the National Investigative Agency (IAS) three days back. An NIA team led by DySP Shoukath Ali on Sunday took him to his native place at Thodupuzha for evidence collection and recovered a few documents during search of his house. Subhani's father Haji Moidheen reportedly told the officers that Subhani left to Tamil Nadu and the family members had no knowledge regarding his activities there.
Subhani, who was working in Chennai, had left his home on April 8, 2015 on a visiting visa, telling his parents and wife that he was going to perform Umrah. “We ‘ve seized certain documents during the search at his house on Market Road, Thodupuzha,” sources said. Subhani was arrested last Thursday. During interrogation, he reportedly told the officers that he was recruited to the terror outfit through online social media platform and that he underwent a detailed course in Shariya followed by combat training at Mosul, Iraq. Meanwhile, BJP activists assembled and raised slogans against the accused during evidence collection process, however, the cops managed to bring the situation under control.
