Hyderabad: Truck mows down man
Container vehicle sped 3 km with body hanging behind.
Hyderabad: An unidentified man was killed in an accident on NH 44 in Mahbubnagar in the wee hours of Sunday. The driver of the container truck which hit him, drove for about three-km with the man’s body hanging behind the vehicle.
This is the second such incident within a month in the district. Manopad SI B. Bhagavanth Reddy said the air-conditioned container vehicle was going from Hyderabad to the B. Kothakota village of Chittoor district in AP. When the vehicle was passing through the flyover near Alampur X roads it hit a man who was crossing the road.
Truck driver Pandu did not see the person and drove ahead. Motorists behind the container vehicle saw the body hanging on the housing of the vehicle on the back. They stopped the vehicle and informed the driver. By then, he had driven around two km and reached the Pullur Toll Plaza located around three km away from Kurnool district border.
The toll plaza staff alerted the police. “The pant on one of the legs got stuck in the housing. The other leg was hanging loose and there was blood across the two km stretch,” he said.
The body was recovered and sent to Alampur Hospital for autopsy. A case of causing death through rash driving was registered against the driver, and he was detained.
In another incident on September 19, 38-year-old M. Srinivasulu died after he was hit by a speeding car while crossing the road at Jadcherla on September 19.
The body of Srinivasulu was flung on to the roof of the vehicle which kept moving with the body for around three km. Seeing the body on the car roof, some youths chased the car on bikes. But the driver abandoned the vehicle at Macharam and fled. Police later arrested the driver, K. Rajashekar Reddy, a Hyderabad businessman.
