Chennai: Techie, cousin end lives over marriage plans

Chennai: A software professional and his cousin committed suicide together at Avadi on Tuesday by hanging from the ceiling fan because they were dejected over their families for forcing them to marry persons not of their choice.
Police said T Saravanan (31), a resident of Ullagaram and his cousin Saranya (23), staying in TNHB quarters in Avadi were found dead in latter's house on Tuesday evening. The two were alone at home when they decided to take the extreme step. Saranya, who is a tailor, is the daughter of Saravanan's mother's sister.
The Police team from the Avadi station rushed to the scene on information and shifted the bodies to the Kilpauk Medical College (KMC) for post-mortem. Police, after preliminary investigation, said that the two were upset over marriage proposals.
Saravanan's parents Thangamani and Suguna was forcing him to get engaged to a girl of their choice, but he was not interested in the proposal.
He went to his aunt Saranya's mother Mythili's house in Avadi on Tuesday. Mythili and her husband Sunbramani were at their places of work and when Saravanan went to their house only Saranya was there.
Police said that that Saranya was also unhappy with her parents for planning her engagement. “It looks like both were not happy with decisions of their respective families and decided to end their lives,” police said.
