Electors awareness rally held in Tirupati
As part of the national-level launch of the special summary revision of the voters’ list, walkathons have been organised across the Tirupati district on Wednesday to motivate young voters to get their names included in the voter list.
The Election Commission of India (ECI) commenced a special brief revision of electoral rolls across the country to enrol unenrolled eligible citizens. The ECI conducts the special summary revision during the months of October and November every year.
District collector K. Venkataramana Reddy, along with municipal commissioner Anupama Anjali and DRO Srinivas Rao, flagged off the rally in the morning. The rally took off from the municipal office, passed through the thoroughfares of the city, and culminated at the NTR Circle near Town Club.
Speaking on the occasion, collector Venkataramana Reddy appealed to all eligible citizens to participate in the special summary revision of the voters’ list, which commenced today. He said the brief revision of electoral rolls had been started with a specific purpose to increase the participation of citizens from urban areas, especially enrolling the citizens above the age of 18 in all the colleges.
“Be it hills, remote areas, coastal lines, inaccessible terrains, and deserts, everywhere in the country, every single citizen gets enlisted as a voter. Educated youth will exercise their right to vote properly and elect the desired leader. So, everyone who is eligible should be registered as a voter. It is only through your voting that democracy will be strengthened,” Reddy said.
Commissioner Anupama Anjali said that according to the instructions of the ECI, programmes such as the presentation of the draft voter list and the opportunity to register as a voter were organised in Prakasam Park this morning. She requested all voters in the urban areas, all the youth to participate, get registered, and vote.
A human chain was also formed at the NTR Circle to create awareness about voter registration. Further, the municipal commissioner conducted a review with 265 booth-level officers of the Tirupati Assembly constituency. Apart from officials, students of various schools and colleges and voters from all walks of life were present on this occasion.
