Boy dies in roadside drain

VIJAYAWADA: In a tragic incident, five-year-old Sk Suleman Ashraf died of a fall in an uncovered nala (roadside drain) at Old Rajarajeswari Peta area here.
Ashraf was playing near his house on Wednesday but accidentally fell into
the open drain. Nobody noticed it. The parents were unaware about this and searched for him but in vain.
Later, the parents complained to the Two-Town police station and the police started a search. They observed the CC cameras at the Old RR Pet near the boy’s house. The police noticed the presence of an open drain. They started a search there on Thursday and the boy’s body was found.
The police shifted the body to the government hospital for autopsy. The parents alleged that the VMC did not respond to their request to cover the
open drain with a mesh.
