Former Governor PB Acharya of North Eastern States Passes Away at 91
Udupi: Padamanabha Balakrishna Acharya (PB Acharya), a native of Udupi who served as the governor of North Eastern States, passed away on Friday morning at his residence in Mumbai.
He is survived by his wife Savitha Acharya, three sons, and a daughter.
His illustrious career included serving as the governor of Manipur, Nagaland, Arunachal Pradesh, and Tripura, with an additional charge of Assam at one point.
Born on October 8, 1931, in Udupi to Balakrishna and Radha Acharya, Acharya completed his matriculation at Christian High School in Udupi. He pursued higher education at Mahatma Gandhi Memorial College (MGM) and obtained his LLB degree from Mumbai University. Acharya maintained a close association with the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP).
Expressing condolences, Udupi Pejavar Adhokshaja Matha seer Sri Vishwaprasannatirtha Swamiji issued a press statement, highlighting Acharya's deep connection with Udupi and the Math. "He was a confluence of devotion and patriotism. His immense contribution to the country is noteworthy," Swamiji remarked.
