Hyderabad: 25-year-old Ramadevi from Shamshabad, who was rescued from a suicide attempt, said she now understands the value of life. Apprehending whether her family would let her marry the person she loved or not, she attempted suicide but the Lake Police stopped her and counselled her.

Around 200 persons rescued by Lake Police while attempting suicide gathered at Punarjanma, a programme organised by Hyderabad Police where Commissioner M. Mahender Reddy said the survivors present a strong message to society after the rescue. Ms. Ramadevi said, “I realised that there are people facing bigger problems than me.”

65-year-old Sunitha from LB Nagar said that after her husband's death, she looked after her two daughters and a son. Now they are settled in life and harassing her. “I wanted to end my life but after being rescued I realised that death was not the solution. I want to live and give a message to others facing such problems,” she said.

Mr. Mahender Reddy said that the role of the lake Police personnel in rescuing people was highly appreciated. “They helped the survivors to start a new life giving them courage to fight odds and move on in the life. The number of suicides in Hussainsagar in 2016 was cut by half in previous year,” he said.
