Bhubaneswar: Two children on Sunday met their watery graves after they fell into a well near their house at Natakata village under Madhu Sahu Patna panchayat in Odisha’s Dhenkanal.

The deceased were identified as Ranjit Pradhan (5) and Sanjit Pradhan (4), sons of Kampany Pradhan, a resident of  Natakata village.

According to family members, Kampany Pradhan and his wife Saraswati had gone to their paddy field to harvest paddy on Saturday, leaving their four sons and one daughter at home.

On returning, they found their two sons missing. They launched a frantic search for them but couldn’t find them anywhere. However, it didn’t occur to them that they could have fallen into the well a few yards away from their house. They informed the police about the incident. A team from Bhapur Police Station reached the village and launched a search with the help of villagers, but in vain.

On Sunday morning, the villagers then spotted the bodies of the two missing children in the well. They immediately informed the family members. Later, the local police reached the village, fished out the bodies, and sent them to the government hospital for post-mortem.

Following the recovery of the bodies, a pall of gloom descended on the village.
