Tribals Carry Pregnant Women in Doli' in Absence of Roads
Visakhapatnam: Absence of pucca roads in remote tribal areas continues to be a major problem for the villagers, who are forced to carry pregnant women in ‘dolis’ for long distances to reach the nearest road.
In a recent incident, Parvathamma of Injari panchayat Mullova in Pedabayalu mandal was in labour pain. Her family members and villagers carried her on a ‘doli’ for three km to reach the road. From there she was taken to Paderu Hospital.
The tribals of the mandal have been facing such hardships for decades. According to villagers, politicians and officials visit the area, assure them of road construction but nothing is done. They said tribal women were the worst-affected. Lack of connectivity is a major hurdle in the development of the area.
The villagers have submitted a memorandum to the ITDA project officer at Paderu many times seeking construction of pucca road.
