Society responsible for safety of girls: A K Saseendran

Incidents of persecuting and harassing women and children are high at national-level.

KOZHIKODE: Safety of girl child is the responsibility of the society, said transport minister A.K. Saseendran on Friday. While delivering the inaugural address during the observation of National Girl Child Day, organised with the cooperation of department of social justice and Kozikode municipal corporation, here, Mr Saseendran said that incidents of persecuting and harassing women and children are high at national-level. Sadly, such things are also happening in our state, he added.

Mayor Thottathil Raveendran presided over the function. Minister A.K. Saseendran also flagged off the caravan exhibition on wheels highlighting child rights, organised by Social Justice Department with the support of Information and Public Relations department. A docu-fiction 'Pathinettu', on the struggle of a girl named Manzia against child marriage grabbed the attention of the audience.

The exhibition will enlighten public about the girls' safety, health, acceptability, nutritious food, hygiene, empowerment and existing laws on women rights. "The vehicle will be in the district on Thursday and Friday, camping in six major points.
On the first day, the caravan will camp at Mukkam (9 am), Balusserry (11 am) and Kuttiyadi (4 pm). The vehicle will have stoppages at Koyilandy at 12 pm and conclusion in Vadakara in the evening. The caravan will cover all districts except, Idukki and Wayanad.
