VIJAYAWADA: Special chief secretary (Energy) K. Vijayanand on Friday disclosed that Andhra Pradesh will construct a super ECBC-compliant building in Visakhapatnam using state-of-the-art technologies, which will become a model to be adopted by all energy-efficient buildings in India.

The super building compliant with ECBC (Energy Conservation Building Code) norms will be completed within nine months.

The special CS said the super ECBC building will be showcased during the forthcoming G-20 Summit Working Group Committee meeting in Visakhapatnam in March 2023. “The decision of the Government of India’s Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE) to support AP in the construction of the Super ECBC building is thus of great significance,” he remarked.

Vijayanand explained that ECBC buildings consume 25 per cent less energy while super ECBC buildings reduce energy consumption to 50 per cent. “Super ECBC buildings can easily become net zero in energy consumption,” he remarked.

The special chief secretary requested Visakhapatnam municipal commissioner P. Raja Babu to approve the plan for APEPDCL Training Institute with G+1 Floors, which will be built in compliance with super ECBC 2017 norms. He mentioned that since the adoption of the ECBC code in Andhra Pradesh, 701 commercial buildings have been constructed that are ECBC compliant.

Vijayanand pointed out that the energy demand of the building sector in the state is 4,800 million units. Energy efficiency measures in this sector can reduce power consumption by around 25–30 per cent.
