ADILABAD: The Telangana government is expediting the distribution of 2BHK houses that were already completed and speeding up the construction of more houses for the distribution in the erstwhile Adilabad district.

Local BRS MLAs are under pressure from the 2bhk applicants for early allocations and opposition leaders are taking the lead in occupying the completed 2BHKs in some places.

In view of this, the government decided to speed up the distributions in various assembly constituencies.

Simultaneously, the government would focus on selecting the eligible beneficiaries for the 3 lakh financial assistance for construction of the houses on their own.

The government is also making efforts to give Rs 3 lakh to each of the eligible persons for construction of houses on their land instead of giving them the 2BHK houses.

Nirmal collector Varun Reddy inspected the 2BHK houses in Khanapur and Kadam mandal and asked the officials to complete them before March 1.

The collector said municipal administration minister KT Rama Rao would soon inaugurate the 2BHK units in Khanapur assembly constituency.

Some more 2BHK houses in Nirmal town were ready for distribution in Bangalpet and Nagunaipet colonies.

Many families that have been waiting for long to get the 2BHKs have occupied the constructed units without waiting for the formal allocation to the eligible beneficiaries via a lottery system in Mancherial.

Political leaders, MLAs, police personnel and housing officials are worried over this trend of applicants forcefully occupying the 2BHKs spreading to their areas.

There was a huge delay in the allocation of 2BHK to the beneficiaries despite the completion of several 2BHK houses.

Nearly 30 families occupied 2BHKs in Rajivnagar in Mancherial town. Police tried to vacate these families on July 6.

Such an incident took place in Adilabad town too and the police vacated the occupants from these 2BHK houses.

Leaders of some opposition parties supported such illegal occupation of 2BHKs. Many people along with their belongings forced their entry into the 2BHKs by breaking open the locks.

According to official sources, 6,600 families had applied for the 2BHKs in Nirmal district. For them, 4,000 2BHKs were almost completed. Of these, 2000 2BHK are in the Nirmal Municipality.

Through a lottery, as many as 1,248 2bhk houses were constructed at Bangalpet and Nagunaipet and these were allocated to the eligible families in the Nirmal town in Nov, 2022.
