HC quashes criminal case proceedings against BRS MLS Nagender
Hyderabad: The Telangana High Court has quashed proceedings in a criminal case filed against BRS Khairatabad MLA Danam Nagender after he struck a compromise with the de facto complainant, K. Suryanarayana, manager of the Lakshmi Narasimha Swamy temple at Banjara Hills.
Chief Justice Ujjal Bhuyan delivered the order on a petition filed by Nagender seeking quashing of the chargesheet filed by the Banjara Hills police.
The case dated to 2012 when Nagender was labour minister in the then Congress government and trespassed into Sri Lakshmi Narasimha Swamy temple in Banjara Hills with his henchmen and locked its gates when a woman devotee and two pujaris were still inside.
Nagender was protesting the endowment department handing over 4.3 acres of temple land to the International Society for Krishna Consciousness (Iskcon).
Upon a complaint by temple manager, the Banjara Hills police registered a criminal case against Nagender and three others for unlawful assembly, assaulting a public servant, causing damage and insulting a person and filed a chargesheet last year.
After that, Nagender and temple manager K. Suryanarayana struck a compromise and a copy of the compromise petition was furnished to the court.
Chief Justice Bhuyan examined the compromise petition and the IPC sections in the case which carry a maximum punishment of two years in jail and quashed the criminal proceedings.
