WARANGAL: The BRS party's Janakipuram village sarpanch has made sensational allegations against her own party’s Station Ghanpur MLA and former deputy chief minister Thatikonda Rajaiah -- that he was harassing her sexually and torturing her mentally.

The MLA was also creating hurdles in the way of implementation of the developmental works in her village, the sarpanch Kursapalli Navya told the media on Friday.

She said, “We entered politics to do public service, not to serve our leaders. It is because of such political leaders that the BRS party is getting a bad name. Many committed leaders and women workers are leaving the BRS party.”

MLA Rajaiah vehemently denied the allegations from Sarpanch Navya and said some of his own party leaders were behaving like Shikandis and trying to malign his image as they were unable to digest the popularity he was having among the people in the constituency.

Navya was elected as village sarpanch on the BRS ticket from Janakipuram of Dharmasagar mandal under Station Ghanpur constituency in Hanamkonda district.

Addressing the media, Navya alleged that MLA Rajaiah was harassing her day and night for the past two years. He was making phone calls and talking to her in filthy language for hours together. “All other women sarpanches are also facing the same problems from MLA Rajaiah,” she said.

She said that the MLA was asking her to fulfill his wishes, with a promise that he would “give me whatever I want in return, be it gold, land or sanction for development work in my village.”

“On a number of occasions, I tried to explain to him that I looked at him as a father figure, but he never stopped harassing me sexually and mentally,” she said.

She also alleged that the MLA was showing discrimination against women sarpanches and not sanctioning bills for the developmental works if they refused to oblige him.

“This apart, he keeps threatening women that they will not grow in politics if they do not listen to their senior leaders in positions and that they would end our political career,” she alleged.

The MLA responded, “Since assembly elections are coming later this year, some people are intentionally  trying to defame me. I will bring the issue to the notice of chief minister KCR and explain to him everything in detail.”
