Hyderabad: Four youths drown in lake
Though none of them knew swimming they entered the lake to bathe and have fun.
Hyderabad: Four youths who went to the Umdasagar Lake in Mailardevpally for a bath drowned. Five others who were with them escaped. Police said the youths did not know swimming. They drowned as they walked too deep into the lake. All the four bodies were retrieved from the lake.
The deceased were identified as Sk Ameeruddin, S.K. Farooq, Salman Khan and Asif Khan. Inspector S. Venkat reddy said all the nine youths were residents of Bahadurpura and were working in small scale industries.
At around 11.30 am on Sunday they came to the Umdasagar lake. Though none of them knew swimming they entered the lake to bathe and have fun. As some of them went too deep into the lake they lost their balance and drowned. “Four people managed to escape and they rescued one person while the others drowned,” Mr Venkat Reddy said.
As news about the drowning spread police and villagers rushed to the spot and rescue operations began immediately. “Swimmers tried to find the bodies and by evening all the four bodies were retrieved,” Mr Venkat Reddy added. The bodies were taken to Osmania Hospital for autopsy. A case of suspicious death was registered.
