KOCHI: The Tripunithura municipality in association with the police authorities has installed surveillance cameras at nine major junctions and roads. The civic body decided to install cameras to ensure women safety and to prevent waste dumping. Municipal chairperson R. Chandrika Devi inaugurated their functioning. “The cameras have been installed at busy points in the town and outskirts like SN Junction, North Fort Gate, East Fort Gate, Statue Junction, Puthiyakavu and Karingachira. The high definition cameras with clear night vision can store the visuals for a long time,” she said.

The live visuals from the nine points will be displayed on the two monitors in the municipal office and Tripunithura circle inspector's office. “Though the merchants’ union had earlier installed surveillance cameras at seven spots in the municipal area, miscreants destroyed them. The cables were cut making them useless,” she added.
