Hyderabad: In a relief to Zaheerabad MP Bhim Rao Baswanth Rao Patil in the election petition filed against his election, the Supreme Court on Monday stayed the Telangana High Court's hearing of the case.

The apex court bench of Justice S. Ravindra Bhat and Justice Dipankar Datta was hearing Patil’s challenge of the Telangana High Court’s decision of March 17, which had dismissed his interim application to reject the election petition filed by the losing contestant, K. Madanmohan Rao.

Rao, who lost by 6,000 votes, had requested the High Court to declare Patil’s election as void, because he did not mention the pending criminal cases and punishments in his election affidavit.

Patil said a case was registered in Jharkhand against the business firm which belongs to him and his family members, and not him personally.

The Supreme Court directed the registrar of the Jharkhand High Court to ensure that the records of Crime Report 96 dated 20.03.2013 were transmitted to it. The registrar was also directed to provide separately, in a report, the title of the proceedings as well as the particulars of the accused.
