Bengaluru: Considering the shortage of space to park vehicles for Namma Metro users, the state government is planning to construct automated multi-storey parking lots near Metro stations on PPP model.

Bengaluru Development minister K.J. George told reporters here on Tuesday, said, "I have discussed with Bengaluru Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) Managing Director Pradeep Singh Kharola to identify locations near metro stations to built multi-storey parking lots".

Automated parking lots concept was mooted in Delhi Metro and private entrepreneurs had came forward to build them. In addition, the government has instructed BMRCL to provide parking facilities wherever available near Metro stations, Mr George said.

Haphazard parking by the Metro commuters was causing traffic congestion near Metro stations, he added. Once car enters the parking lot, it automatically moved to parking area, smart cards will be issued to use automated parking lots, Mr George said.

“I have asked Kharola to shift the chiller plant unit situated at ground level in Cubbon Park Metro station to first floor of the same station and that chiller plant unit can be used for parking lot,” the Minister  said.

However, Metro Spokesperson Vasanth Rao said that existing chiller unit plant at Cubbon Park metro station monitors the air-conditioning of Metro.
Its shifting to upper level was a technical issue, he said.
