Thiruvananthapuram: Alappuzha and Idukki are the least hazardous districts for a policeman to work due to low friction with local citizens, according to statistics. Around 71 policemen were injured in politically volatile Kannur in one year till January 2016. An equal number  of policemen  was injured in the capital city in violent strikes between policemen and protestors.

Interestingly, only seven policemen were injured in Alappuzha and only 10 were injured in Idukki. No policeman died during  duty in the state in one year till January 2016, as per crime records.  “The tranquillity in Alappuzha gives us a bit more confidence during the election. I am not of the opinion that people in Alappuzha are non-aggressive but things won’t go beyond a limit. People are generally law abiding and won’t put up a  stiff resistance if law enforcers are on the side of justice. The police and people share a very cordial relationship  and people are not framed for attacking a cop,” said a source.

As per Thiruvananth-apuram city police Commissioner Sparjan Kumar, though Kannur witnesses cases of policemen being singled out and individually attacked, that do not normally happen in Thiruvananthapuram. “Policemen are not individually targeted but suffer during strikes. The other times when they may get injured could be while trying to stop drunken brawls,”   said Mr Sparjan Kumar.

Trailing behind the capital city and Kannur are  Kozhikode city (65), Malappuram (56) and Kozhikode rural (47). The attack on policemen during warrant execution is common in many places which particularly have borders with forests. Around 27 policemen were injured in Ernakulam city, the financial hub of the state.
