Kurnool: District collector Dr. G. Srijana on Wednesday said state government is ready to provide equipment to weavers if they contribute just 10 per cent of the cost.

The collector was speaking after handing over looms and other implements to weavers along with Adoni MLA Sai Prasad Reddy and MLC Dr. Madhusudan. The looms have been sanctioned in the first phase of Cluster Development Programme.

Srijana advised weavers to improve their life by utilising assistance from the government. She suggested that as their 10 percent share, they can contribute the money received by them in the form of pension or through Jagananna Netanna Nestham scheme.

Legislator Sai Prasad Reddy said looms and other implements are being distributed to 124 families in the first phase with 90 percent subsidy. He pointed out that one-and-a-half cents of land had been given to families of handloom weavers when Dr. Y.S. Rajasekhar Reddy had been the chief minister.

The MLA pointed out that this land is sufficient only for the house. As such, he requested the district collector to suggest to the government that three cents of land be now allotted for both the loom and residence.

MLC Madhusudan, municipal chairperson Santha, Adoni sub-collector Abhishek Kumar, municipal commissioner Raghunath Reddy, regional handlooms deputy director D. Raja Rao and assistant director Hariprasad were among those present.
