Robo Cop Singam' to help Pondy tourists
The Police Department designed a Robo Cop and named it as Constable Singam'.
Puducherry: ‘Constable Singam’, a robot cop, will help tourists to find their favourite spots or toll free numbers to be contacted during an emergency.
The Puducherry Police, in collaboration with Department of Tourism, introduced the tourism information facility through a robotic system to facilitate dissemination of information to tourists visiting here.
The Police Department designed a “Robo Cop” and named it as ‘Constable Singam’. About the size of a young man, Singam is equipped with a computer monitor in its hands and can show information about tourist attractions, tourism police, police stations nearest to tourist spots, officers to be contacted in emergency, and Toll Free numbers to help the tourists. They can access the facility and seek information from the help desk formulated in the computer system.
Puducherry Lt Governor Kiran Bedi inaugurated the facility in the presence of Chief Minister V Narayanasamy at the beach road here. DGP Sunil Kumar Goutham, IG Surendra Singh Yadav, SSP Apoorva Gupta and other senior police officials participated in the function.
To make the cop system more tourist friendly, the territorial admin had launched a special police force with distinct blue-coloured head gear to ensure safety of visitors in January this year. The newly introduced force was deputed at various tourist destinations to provide security to domestic and international tourists.
