Dalit Tied To Pole, Beaten Up As His Bullock Entered Agriculture Fields, Damaged Crop
ADILABAD: Dalit organisations have condemned an incident of a farmer, S. Ram Reddy, tying a Dalit to a pole as a punishment after the poor man’s bullock entered his field and damaged the standing crop in Shankarapuram in Kotapalli mandal of Mancherial district.
Ram Reddy released Bapu after the villagers intervened on his behalf.
The incident took place on Thursday evening and a photograph of the incident went viral on social media.
Ram Reddy also allegedly beat the Dalit after tying him to a pole and abused him for his failure to prevent the bullock from entering his agriculture fields. He was accused of deliberately releasing his bullock into Ram Reddy’s agriculture fields.
“Ram Reddy took Bapu’s bullock to his house and kept it there. Subsequently Bapu went to Ram Reddy’s house and took his cattle to his home when Ram Reddy was not present,” it is learnt.
Durgam Bapu said Ram Reddy dragged him and thrashed him up to Ram Reddy’s house and warned him against lodging any complaint with the police against him.
Members of Dalit organisations staged a protest and sought stern action against Ram Reddy and met the victim, Duram Bapu, to extend their solidarity.
CPM activists took out a rally to the police station on Friday and demanded stern action against Ram Reddy.
Local police registered a case against Ram Reddy under the SC and ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act, and other relevant sections and remanded him to judicial custody.
