HYDERABAD: A weekend trip of four 19-year-old engineering students from Sangareddy district turned tragic as two of them died in an accident. The four were returning home in their car after completing their trip to Anantagiri Hills in Vikarabad when the car crashed into a tree on the roadside, Chevella police said.

Mandava Pradeep Kumar and Chappidi Sony died on the spot, while Aryavarthan, who was driving the vehicle, and Akhil suffered severe injuries and are undergoing treatment in a private hospital.

According to police, the four started from Sangareddy on Saturday evening and stayed in Anantagiri hills for the night. They started at home around 6:30 a.m. on Sunday. Around 7:40 a.m., when the vehicle was near the Aloor gate of Chevella, Arya lost control of the car at a curve.

As he tried to steer it, the vehicle swerved multiple times and the rear portion of the vehicle crashed into the tree on the left side of the road. Pradeep and Sony were sitting in the rear seat.

Chevella police station house officer M. Laxma Reddy ruled out drunken driving. “Drowsiness or speeding could have led to the accident,” he said. A case has been registered against Aryavarthan, he added.
