Passengers hit at Swathi Thirunal College of Music
Few amenities for inter-state bus users.
THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Hundreds of passengers who arrive in front of Music College to board inter-state private buses complain about lack of amenities, loos and hygienic eateries here. Dozens of buses to various cities like Bengaluru and Chennai start from here. The area comes to life after 6 pm to 9.30 pm. Ironically, there were no public urinals for women here. Garbage dumps here double up as loos for men. Making matters worse, roadside food stalls are unhygienic and devoid of wash basins.
“Once Bengaluru buses start from here, they will stop only after Tirunelveli for loos. So people coming from different areas of city to board buses answer nature’s call on road,” said Anju S.S., a regular traveller. “The buses starting after 8 pm won’t stop for food. In AC buses we can’t sit and eat food we bring from home. Passengers have no other option but unhygienic eateries or few of packet of biscuits,” she added. Thycaud councillor Vidya Mohan said that ward sabha for the year 2017-18 convened in March had discussed all the issues.
“We have asked town planning department to urgently install two e-toilets here. The waste dumps here were massive that new bins were also proposed. We hope it comes through quickly by close coordination of corporation health standing committee and town planning wing,” she said. The lack of good lighting on Mettukada-Music College Road will also be solved using some of around 400 new LED lights that will be allotted to the ward, she added.
