Chennai: Woman ends life as hubby refuses to take her to hospital

Chennai: A 22-year-old woman allegedly killed herself since her husband refused to take her to the hospital on Tuesday night.

The police said Hari Kumar (25) and his wife Sowmya (22) were residents of Kadampadi Colony in Mahabalipuram.  They have two daughters.

According to police, “Sowmya had been suffering from severe stomach pain for the past few days. Since she could not bear the pain, she  asked her husband to take her to the hospital but he refused,” said the police officer.

Unable to bear the pain she immolated herself at the house on Tuesday morning. Hari Kumar who tried to put out the fire also sustained burns.

Neighbours rushed them to the Kilpauk Medical College and hospital where she succumbed to injuries on Tuesday night. Hari Kumar is under medical treatment.  The Mahabalipuram police registered a case and further investigations are on.
